About
Ben commenced his career at PwC. In 2008 he joined KHT and became a partner in 2012.
Ben was always focussed on the technical aspects of small business accounting and tax strategy. He has always enjoyed the technical challenges, particularly around effective structuring for business and investment.
However since becoming a partner of the firm in 2012 through to running the firm in 2019, Ben found that it took much more than technical finance and tax skills to run and grow a successful business. In fact it’s completely separate skill set and focus!
He found that just because he was good with finances and tax, it didn’t translate to being good at running a business.
Many mistakes were made and many lessons learned. There were constant spot fires to be put out – financial stresses, problems with the team, client service issues and general behind the scenes chaos!
Having a technical skill is one thing. Running a business requires focus on the following:
- Driving growth in the business
- Attracting and retain great people
- Having systems to be financially organised
- Focussing on the numbers to improve business performance
- Having a financial plan beyond the business
It took Ben years to work this out. Then he implemented the above at KHT and continues to work on it on a weekly basis.
Now he assist clients with the same process. Here are some Case Studies
Personally
An avid reader with particular interest in business literature and biographies. He rides his bike to work, rain, hail or shine. Goes surfing whenever possible. Will always opt to kick the footy with his three boys rather than watch it on TV
